Ineffectiveness of Cybercrime Awareness Caller Tune: In the digital age, cybercrime awareness is undeniably crucial. However, the method adopted to spread this awarenessโthrough long, repetitive caller tunesโhas begun to pose more harm than benefit. It’s time to reassess and reimagine how we communicate urgent information to the public, especially when such methods interfere with emergency situations.

The Problem: Caller Tunes Delaying Emergency Calls
Across the country, mobile users are forced to listen to a cybercrime awareness messageโlasting anywhere from 60 to 90 secondsโeach time they make a call. While well-intentioned, this mandated delay can have devastating consequences in moments of urgency.
Imagine a situation where someone is trying to make an urgent / emergency call. Every second counts. A delay of even 30 seconds can be the difference between life and death. Yet, these awareness messages stand in the way, playing out in full before a connection is made. This is not just frustrating; it is potentially dangerous.

Six Months On: No Tangible Results
These caller tunes have been active for almost six months now, and despite widespread exposure, the impact remains questionable. Cyber frauds like โDigital Arrest Scams or Jal Board Scamsโ continue to trap innocent citizens. If the aim was to educate and prevent cybercrime, the current method is clearly falling short.
Awareness is not just about repetition; it’s about effectiveness. If the strategy fails to connect with or empower citizens, it loses its very purpose.
Alternative Solutions: Engage the Real Channels of Mass Communication
If the goal is to reach every citizen, why not turn to platforms that already dominate the publicโs attentionโtelevision news media and online content creators?
News channels, especially those often engaged in sensationalist debates, should be directed to play these awareness messages during ad breaks and scrolling headlines. Not only would this increase visibility, but it would also ensure that critical communication platforms are used more constructively.
Itโs Time for a Smarter Strategy
Awareness needs to evolve with time. Mandatory caller tunes are not only outdated but also misaligned with real-world urgency. We urge the Government of India to explore more intelligent, impactful, and safer alternatives:
- Mandatory cybercrime messages before movie screenings and OTT content
- Partnerships with YouTube influencers and Instagram reels to reach younger audiences
- Short, engaging public service advertisements on television and radio
- Integration with UPI apps, bank portals, and SMS alerts
These alternatives would preserve both public safety and digital security, without risking lives during critical moments.
Ineffectiveness of Cybercrime Awareness Caller – From: We, the People of India
This isnโt just a plea from a single citizen. It is a collective voiceโa call for action from We, the People of India, who believe that public safety must not be compromised under the pretext of awareness.
Reconsider the caller tune. Rethink the method. Reinforce the mission.
