Supreme Court hearing turns controversial after remarks on unemployed youth, activists, and fake law degrees.

During a Supreme Court hearing, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant strongly criticized a lawyer seeking directions in the Senior Advocate designation process and questioned his repeated petitions before the court.

The petitioner argued that the Delhi High Court had failed to comply with earlier Supreme Court directions regarding reconsideration of Senior Advocate applications. The bench appeared frustrated over the repeated litigation and the lawyer’s conduct.

During the hearing, the CJI remarked that some unemployed youth become part of media, social media, or activist spaces and begin “attacking the system,” comparing them to “cockroaches.”

The CJI told the petitioner that even if the High Court granted him Senior Advocate designation, the Supreme Court could set it aside because of concerns regarding his professional conduct.

A day later, the CJI clarified that his observations were specifically aimed at individuals entering professions with “fake and bogus degrees” and said parts of the media had misquoted his oral remarks.
