The Central Government has cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination following allegations of a paper leak and major exam irregularities.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) confirmed that the NEET exam will be conducted again. Fresh exam dates will be announced separately.

NTA stated that students will not need to pay any extra fee for the re-exam. The fee already paid for the first exam will also be refunded.

Existing registration data, candidature details, and exam centres selected in May 2026 will automatically be carried forward for the re-exam.

Nashik Police detained Shubham Khairnar from Indira Nagar based on Rajasthan Police inputs in connection with the NEET paper leak investigation.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will now conduct a detailed inquiry into the alleged paper leak and exam-related irregularities.

NEET UG 2026 was conducted across 551 Indian cities and 14 international cities at 5,432 centres for around 22.79 lakh candidates.

The provisional answer key was released on May 7, 2026.
